Kannada Actress Pranitha Subhash shares three things that helped her during motherhood.
Motherhood is an emotional rollercoaster that takes a woman on an incredible journey of love, self-discovery and growth. From the moment she holds her new-born in her arms, a mother’s life changes in ways she never imagined. She experiences a profound sense of joy and fulfilment that comes from nurturing and caring for another human being.
However, the journey of motherhood is not always smooth sailing. It can be overwhelming, stressful, and at times, downright exhausting, especially for first-time mothers. The challenges of sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and feeding schedules can take a toll on a mother's physical and mental wellbeing. Nonetheless, the rewards of motherhood far outweigh the challenges, and it is a journey that every mother cherishes for a lifetime.
Here are three things that helped me embrace this phase in a healthy manner.
Prioritise Self-care

As a new mother, it is easy to put your own needs on the back burner and prioritise your baby’s needs. However, it is essential to remember that self-care is crucial for your overall well-being. Taking care of yourself will not only benefit you, but it will also benefit your baby. I do simple activities like taking a walk, reading a book, or taking a relaxing bath that do wonders for my mental and physical health.

Postpartum recovery can be a challenging and overwhelming time for new mothers. While getting enough rest and proper nutrition are crucial for healing, including exercise into your routine can also be immensely beneficial. Personally, I believe engaging in gentle activities such as walking, yoga, or swimming has helped me reduce stress, improve my mood, and promote a faster recovery. It is not necessary to participate in high-intensity workouts to see the benefits of exercise.
Build A Support System

Motherhood can be a wonderful and fulfilling experience, but it can also be overwhelming and isolating, especially during the early stages. The adjustment to a new routine, the sleepless nights, and the constant demands of caring for a new-born can affect a mother’s emotional wellbeing. Building a strong support system is crucial for new moms. A reliable support system can provide practical assistance with household chores and childcare, offer a listening ear and emotional support, and give a much-needed break when things get tough.
Eat Healthy To Feel Energetic

While once in a while we all can indulge, we need to eat nutritious, wholesome and balanced meals to provide it for the baby. I eat homemade meals that include a healthy portion of veggies and protein.
Additionally, as a working mom, I have learned the importance of having a nutritious snack option readily available. I always carry small snack packs with me, so I can nibble on them whenever I am hungry. It is imperative to look at healthy options such as nets and seeds for this, especially if you are still breastfeeding. I always keep almonds handy in my bag. They are the perfect on-the-go snack and provide a daily portion of healthy fats, protein, and fibre.
Often, for breakfast, I pair nuts with fruits or incorporate them into other snacks for an added dose of nutrition. Additionally, I eat soaked almonds in the morning, for an energetic start to the day, and this also helps my baby.
As you embark on this incredible journey of motherhood, know that you are not alone. You have the power within you to navigate through the ups and downs that come with being a mother. Keep shining, new moms, the world needs you!
