Breaking Free From Debt
Actor Rashami Desai’s sheer gumption has taken her from growing up in poverty to becoming one of India’s highest-paid television stars
Growing up, my family’s financial situation was pretty dire. Even at the age of just 13 or 14, I knew I had to do something, and I found work as a dancer. When I look back at those days, I feel extremely sad; I don’t remember really having a childhood.â¯
“Nothing has ever been handed to me. I have had to work hard for everything. I have always told myself, ‘This too shall pass,’ but things don’t always work out the way you’d want them to.â¯
“It took me a while to understand what was important for our family’s financial planning. I did a lot of pension and financial planning. I’ve realised that it was very important to know how to invest correctly, because that’s how money grows.â¯
“Life is all about planning and attitude. It is the same even with work, it’s very easy to get demotivated with the competition around. Yet, I feel that the universe has been on my side.â¯
“I finally have a lifestyle that is quite high maintenance due to my job, but I ensure that I save, invest, and also donate. That is very important to me. Now, I live securely with proper financial planning.”â¯
